Provided in an order that flows from one crucial step to the next, each module will take around an hour to read through, with homework and your own research adding extra time. We ask questions, provide tasks, encourage you to form positive habits and invite you to dig deep into the heart of your art practice in order to propel your career forward.

Modules 1-3

The first 3 modules of The Astute Artist help you to:

  • Understand and choose the industry pathway best suited to your art practice and long-term career goals. We cover the characteristics of each pathway, provide tasks to assist with your decision and explore why it’s worth considering entering art prizes.
  • Refine your goals and gain a realistic insight into the practicalities of running a small art business. This module is heavy on homework and paperwork but is tailored to help ensure the admin side of things is set up as efficiently as possible.
  • Examine the various aspects of running a sustainable small art business and identify your key strengths, with a view to saving you time and money. This is also an opportunity to consider the aspects of your business that may need to be outsourced.

COURSE OPTION #3
Modules 4-6

The second 3 modules of The Astute Artist help you to:

  • Establish great daily, weekly and yearly habits. By exploring how you work most efficiently, this module will help you to shed negative habits and focus on the positive habits that will help take your career to the next stage.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of all the written content artists are required to create, with the list including artist statements, exhibition catalogues and media releases. Before taking you step-by-step through writing your own biography, we provide a series of prompts to get the inspiration flowing.
  • Increase your visibility and be prepared for media opportunities. This module covers details on everything you should have in place in the event that you are approached by a gallery, become a finalist in an art prize or catch the eye of a digital or print publication. As a bonus, we talk to a well-known Australian artist about the media and collaboration opportunities that have come her way.
